About this quote

My wife and I run a small business together. She works seventeen hours a day, her schedule always packed. We often argue over disagreements at work, until one day she said, “I don’t have time to argue with you.” I was angry too. But after calming down, I knew we couldn’t keep arguing like this. Later, that thought became this quote. Even now, I don’t believe we need to devote all our time and energy to achieving success and making a name for ourselves. Our business deserves our care, but so does our life. We’re building a business together; we should leave some time to live together, too. Yet out of a sense of duty, I feel guilty resting while she keeps working. But given my health, I simply cannot withstand the same workload. If I forced myself to work as hard as she does, I would become cannon fodder on her road to success. She is someone who never regrets her choices, and probably would not feel much sorrow over that potential sacrifice. So I choose to know when to stop. Will distance lend enchantment—or breed estrangement?
